Absolutely. A lot of our students are in the same boat. For people who can't make it in during the week, we offer double lessons on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll fly one session in the morning, take a lunch break, then head back up for a second lesson in the afternoon. That way, you make the most of every trip in and still keep the consistency you need to progress steadily.

Is there a maximum age to learn to fly?

How old do I have to be to start flying?

There's no minimum age to begin training. The FAA requires students to be 16 to fly solo and 17 to earn a Private Pilot Certificate.

Do I need to pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test before I start flying?

Nope. You just need to pass it before your checkride. That said, we do recommend getting through at least 50% of the ground knowledge before you start flying, so you show up to your first lessons with a solid foundation. The rest is actually easier to learn along the way, because the ground knowledge makes way more sense once you've seen it in the airplane.

You'll fly with a certified flight instructor, experience the basics of flying, and even have the opportunity to take the controls. Can I bring a friend or family member on a Discovery Flight?

Yes. You may bring one passenger, two people total in the aircraft with your instructor. In the Cessna 172 that seat is included at no extra cost. The Cessna 152 seats only you and your instructor, with the main passenger under 200 lb, so no additional passenger can come along.

And if you see a Bay Area school promising way fewer hours, be careful. A low number looks great on a website, but it's usually just there to get you in the door. We'd rather give you the honest number now than surprise you with the real bill later.

Yes! We partner with Stratus Finance to help you fund your training. Checking your options is easy and only uses a soft credit pull, so it won't affect your credit score. Students with a credit score above 700 and a monthly income of around $3,000–$4,000 or more have a very strong chance of being approved. It's a quick way to find out what you qualify for before you commit to anything.

Do I have to pay any money upfront to get started?
